EASTERN ANDES


This area offers interesting cloud forest, paramo and wetlands where many specialities and endemics can be found.

Wetlands: Apolinar’s Wren, Bogota Rail, Silvery-throated Spinetail, Spot-flanked Gallinule, Noble and Andean Snipes.

Pedro Palo area: Turquoise Dacnis, Moustached Brush-Finch, Whiskered Wren,  Moustached Puffbird, Rufous-naped Greenlet, Slate-colored Seedeater, Scrub Tanager, Gorgeted Woodstar, Ash -browed Spinetail.

Rogitama Reserve: A small private reserve. Look in the gardens for: Black Inca, Lazuline Sabrewing, Short-tailed Emerald, Longuemare’s Sunangel, Golden-bellied Starfrontlet, Silvery-throated Spinetail, Moustached Brush-Finch and White-throated Screech-Owl.

Soata area: Mountain Grackle, Rusty-faced Parrot, Gorgeted Wood-Quail -very rare, Lazuline Sabrewing, Chestnut-bellied Hummingbird, Indigo-capped Hummingbird, Nicefero’s Wren and Apical Flycatcher.

Paramos Chingaza, Guasca and La Rusia: Flame-winged Parakeet, Bronze-tailed Thornbill, Coppery-bellied Puffleg, Glowing Puffleg, Rufous-browed Conebill, Longuemare’s Sunangel, Black-collared Jay, Mattoral Tapaculo, Rufous Antpittta, White capped Tanager, Black backed tanager, Spectacled Prickletail, Black billed Mountain Toucan.

Monterredondo: Cundinamarca Antpitta, Flame winged Parakeet Ochre-breasted Brush-Finch  and Green bellied Humminbird

Recurve-billed Bush Bird reserve: Gray-throated Warbler,  , Black-fronted Wood-Quail, Moustached Brush-Finch, Fulvous-headed Tanager, Golden-winged Warbler and Rufous-shafted Woodstar and of course the mythical Recurve-billed Bushbird!!!
